Compatibility with Android devices

Androids require USB 2.0 OTG (on the go) because phones need to be a “device” if attached to a host, but they must be “host” if attached to a device. Basically, phones play for both teams. There are a lot of Android machines from different manufacturers, so it really does depend on the model, manufacturer, and even OS version installed.

Here are the basic requirements:

  • Android device that can run Android 4.1 or above.
  • USB host mode has been enabled by the Android manufacturer.
  • Android device running Android Open Accessory (AOA) protocol version 2.0.

In short, if it conforms to the above specifications, then it will work with the iFi device or any other USB Audio Class 2.0 compatible DAC for that matter.
