Have you ever listened to a song and thought ‘something’s missing?’ It’s not the lyrics, not the beat, but just that genuine intangible spark?
Turns out, that magic might be missing information. But don’t worry, not all hope is lost.
K2HD is here to bring it back. And if you haven’t heard of K2HD, no it’s not a new band, it’s a technology that is able to restore degraded digital sound sources caused by data compression.
Think of it as a digital archaeologist digging deep into your digital files, discovering the harmonics and detail that usually get lost in compression, brushing off the dust and revealing the soul of your music.
And now, with iFi GO pod Max - our most advanced true wireless IEM adapter, you can experience K2HD in its most portable form.
Where K2HD Came From?
K2HD was developed by JVCKENWOOD and the legendary engineers at Victor Studios in Japan; It all started with a complaint, studio engineers noticed that when transferring music from analogue tape to CD, something was being lost, even when the digital files were identical.
In theory, there shouldn’t have been a difference, but after further research the engineers discovered that while the files stayed the same, the real interference occurred when the data was being recorded and then saved. So, in response, they created the original K2 system called, the K2 Interface, to correct it. And that idea of restoration eventually evolved into K2HD: a smarter, more refined way of restoring audio.
What Does K2HD Actually Do?
At its core, K2HD is about bringing music back to life. It restores what compression and conversion often remove, here’s how:
Waveform Revision: Musical instruments don’t just produce one tone; they produce harmonics that create unique timbres. For example, a piano and a violin might hit the same note, but they sound different because of the harmonic content.
With CDs, many of these harmonics are cut off due to the 22kHz playback ceiling. K2HD uses a custom algorithm developed by JVCKENWOOD to reconstruct these lost overtones.
This algorithm wasn’t just built on maths; it was shaped by sound. Engineers tested and adjusted audio across a range of music genres, going through round after round of listening, comparing, and refining. These repeated adjustments led to around 4 trillion possible parameter combinations. From all those trillions, the engineers hand selected the very best.
They didn’t just rely on formulas. They relied on their own listening experience. That’s why K2HD doesn’t sound cold or sterile, it carries the warmth and emotion of human experience, something no algorithm alone could recreate.

Minute Signal Extension (Bit Extension): Digital audio is built from tiny volume steps. A standard CD uses 16-bit audio, which gives you 65,536 steps to move from quiet to loud.
K2HD upscales audio to 24-bit, or 16,777,216 steps. This means there is subtler details, smoother transitions, and more space for your music to breathe. Now could you imagine that with your favourite playlist?
Hear K2HD at Its Best
If you wish to hear K2HD at its best, the GO pod Max, our latest Bluetooth IEM adapter, lets you take that high-resolution, studio-quality sound wherever you go. Whether you're on the move, stuck at your desk, or winding down at home, GO pod Max gives your IEMs everything they need to perform at their peak, so you can enjoy high fidelity audio without the hassle of cables or bulky gear. With support for lossless Bluetooth, and refined Hi-Fi circuitry, it preserves every detail of the K2HD signal, capturing all the richness, depth, and emotion of the original master.
It’s the best DAC/amp for IEMs…not that we’re biased.
Not quite ready to go fully wireless? You can still experience the magic of K2HD with the iDSD Valkyrie - our flagship portable DAC that delivers unmatched clarity, or the GO bar Kensei, our refined, pocket-sized DAC/amp built for high-fidelity listening on the move.
K2HD isn’t just another audio enhancement, it’s a carefully tuned system designed to bring you and your music closer to the original, restoring the subtle layers and depth, so you can hear every song with renewed clarity.
Paired with GO pod Max, that level of detail doesn’t just have to be confined to a studio, it becomes part of your everyday routine.
If you want to hear what K2HD can really do, this is how you do it.
Question is, can the batteries be easily replaced?
Please make K2HD available without the use of the App. I am using the Sennheiser BTD 700 Bluetooth dongle for access to the Aptx lossless codec. There is no way to use the App with this method.
