SPDIF iPurifier

The SPDIF iPurifier optimises the quality of SPDIF signal transmission and enhances the quality of audio from mainstream devices.

Whether you are a movie buff or a hardcore gamer, the SPDIF iPurifier will make sure sound matches vision with stunning quality.

Xbox lack the X factor?

So, you’ve got a TV with crystal clear picture quality? Or an Xbox One X with stunning graphics?

But something is still not quite right. Soundtracks are lack lustre and footsteps remain undefined.

You need the SPDIF iPurifier.

Ifi Audio SPDIF iPurifier

Noisy neighbours

SPDIF is the main digital audio output signal for devices such as Apple TVs, PS4, Xbox and 4K Smart TVs.

It is common in mainstream devices for the SPDIF signal to suffer from low quality transmission and an abundance of jitter.

Got neighbours with noisy power? This can corrupt yours too.

Dance to a different tune

Add our SPDIF iPurifier to get a fully restored, jitter free signal that adds greater dynamic contrast, greater warmth and sharper detail to your sound.

Netflix will never have sounded so good.

Ifi Audio SPDIF iPurifier

An SPDIF of many talents

The SPDIF is multi-talented. It works with Toslink and digital cables on practically any SPDIF source.

And, as it can output both SPDIF and optical at the same time, you can connect it to two devices at once!

Plus, it can double as a coax SPDIF to optical converter.

Perfect performer

It’s Bit Perfect – it doesn’t over or upsample the signal. It’s compatible with DTS, DOLBY Digital and DoP signals and offers full HD support up to 192KHz.

Soundtracks rock and games feel immersive. Cracked it.

Bit Perfect

If a file is “Bit Perfect’ it means it has stayed the same. For example, if a PCM file is played through a DAC to improve the sound quality and the DAC does not change the file format. The file is ‘Bit Perfect’.

DoP

The DoP protocol is a method for transferring DSD Audio over PCM. DoP simply uses PCM frames as a carrier for the native DSD data. A DSD stream can be carried over a lower data stream and will be completely unchanged at the end of the process.

Dolby Digital

Dolby digital is one of the most popular formats for surround sound. It’s used by DVD’s and Netflix.

It is a compressed format, so the newer uncompressed formats sound better.

DTS

DTS is a company that licences codecs. They dominate the physical disc market with DTS5.1 and DTS Master Audio.

Galvanic Isolation

Galvanic isolation is a design technique that separates electrical circuits to eliminate stray currents that contain noise. Signals can pass between galvanically isolated circuits, but stray currents, such as differences in ground potential or currents induced by AC power, do not pass. This means little or no noise interference to the audio signal from stray currents.

Square wave

The square wave pattern is what is desired in audio. It contain more harmonic content than a sine wave or a wave full of distortion and jitter.

Extensive jitter-eradication technologies are applied to the digital stage, including our GMT (Global Master Timing) femto-precision clock and intelligent memory buffer. This represents a total ‘out-of-the-box’ systematic digital solution that solves jitter once and for all.

The signal goes through 4 comprehensive stages – isolation, regeneration, a memory buffer and re-clocking. This restores the industry standard ‘square wave’ which represents the desired signal.

The result is a fully-restored SPDIF signal without jitter.  The sound quality now has greater warmth, resolution and dynamic contrast.

A galvanically isolated SPDIF output means that electrical circuits are separated to eliminate stray elements – a signal can pass but nothing else. Interference-free audio.

And with added Reclock® and Regenerate® the signal remains true and strong.

We pride ourselves on giving you Bit-Perfect signal transfer. This means the signal remains original and unchanged.

This device ensures a Bit-Perfect transfer which is highly unusual for SPDIF devices. It can handle 44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96 / 176.4 / 192kHz; 16 to 24 Bit, DSD, DoP, and even Dolby Digital and DTS.

iFi SPDIF iPurifier Review – Cleaning Sony’s Sound

If you have a highly-rated integrated amplifier or external dac, try this BEFORE anything else!

Got a new Rotel A-12 integrated amplifier last month and am very happy with it. The only thing I noticed (after all this burn in time) that I didn’t like is that some items with complex tonality, like Karen Carpenter’s voice… pure high tone with that special depth that made her voice so memorable was missing the latter. I was thinking strongly about buying an external DAC, but after reading about this item I thought I try it. GLAD I DID.

Not only do I now her Karen’s voice in ALL it’s glory, I hear ALL the richness in other items like pianos, harmonicas, voices, violins, etc. Basically any item where sound is made by vibrations controlled by air flow passing over chords/reeds of some sort (voices, harmonicas, reed instruments) or manually struck (piano, violins, etc). Note I’m a subtle but NOTICABLE difference. I also agree that it cleans up the background of noise and distortion so it makes it easier to hear items in the background that used to be missed.

Do yourself a favor and try it. You can always return it. But my guess is you’ll keep it.

YOU CAN THANK ME LATER…. Glen

iFi iDefender 3.0 & SPDIF iPurifier Reviews | Clean up Your Sources

“The iFi iDefender 3.0 and SPDIF iPurifier are two dongle offers from iFi that are out to clean up your source gear; one for USB, one for SPDIF. Both of these actually do their job quite well, and the iDefender is making its way into my personal setup.”

It works

The damn thing works. It works both on SPDIF/coax input using my CD player as a transport into my supposedly magical jitter-irrelevant ASRC enhanced wonder DAC, and on the Toslink output from the TV fed by USB inputs from a Roku, a blu ray player, and a video game console into that same DAC. But it doesn’t do both at the same time.

If you want to use both SPDIF and Toslink sources at the same time without flopping cables around, you’ll need two of these little turds. But it does work. The level and kind of improvement is similar to a power supply upgrade to a preamp or turntable.

iFi SPDIF iPurifier review: need or need not?

I think of myself as a man of science. I try not to believe in anything and to rely on proofs and experiments as much as I can.

If I can’t measure something, I try to understand how it works in theory and therefore how it should behave, and if things I find out are supported by theory or not. Let me say right at the start that I don’t believe in cables making a difference, but that’s because I think there’s nothing to be believed – something either works or it does not, there’s no need to believe.

We’re talking about cables, not some god or the immortal soul. We have this saying in Italy which goes roughly like “I’m like Saint Thomas, I don’t believe in things unless they’re right in front of me” – that’s my approach. So when I was asked if I wanted to try the iFi SPDIF iPurifier, I was interested in finding out whether it worked or not.

Noticeable Improvement

Even though I read many positive reviews, I was skeptical. I installed the Ipurifier between my DAC and a multiple Toslink selector and I was pleasantly surprised by a noticeable upgrade to the sound quality. It is most apparent with the sound from my older cd mega changer. Instruments like cymbals and bells are more focused.

Vocals are more natural as well. Also a bit more definition in the lows. One negative is that when the device is not receiving a signal (for example if my cd mega changer hasn’t been turned on) it emits a static sound through my audio system. Easy enough to solve by just remembering to turn on the device going to the Ipurifier before turning on my audio system. There is absolutely no static once the device going to the Ipurifier has been turned on; just clearer sound.

Ifi Spdif iPurifier the best value for money

The above product was purchased because of the recommendations by some in the music industry whose opinion I respect. I was not disappointed. The purifier definitely makes a positive difference when placed at the end of a SPDIF cable before a DAC.

In my opinion there is a bigger cleaner sound, voices and background music becomes clearer. One can now enjoy listening to music for hours.

Overview of iFi Audio accessories and filters – does filtering matter?

This article was born in my head a long time ago, mainly due to repeated questions from time to time, whether I had contact with filtering devices like iSilencer, Jitterbug etc. But since I run my humble blog, I’ve probably got used to most people to a few maxims, which I am guided in total not only in the field of audio equipment, but generally in life…

Awesome device

I had a persistent ground loop issue on a high end surround sound system.
I was skeptical this would fix it but it did so instantly with no further issues.

NEVER HEARD background coughing before this filter!!

I know that there are a couple of scientific reviews which say that this filter injects noise into the circuit. To that I say BAH!!

I wanted whole house sound when streaming TIDAL, so I ordered several Chromecast Audio dongles a few weeks before Google decided to discontinue them.

Then I read about upgrading Chromecast Audio with Ethernet input (vs. WiFi), a linear power supply (also from iFi) and this anti-jitter filter. POW!! The difference in HiFi sound from TIDAL was detected by my spouse who generally does not notice subtle audio differences. Blur, pre-ring, and noise were limited to the extent that on Diana Krall’s “A Case Of You” (from Live in Paris Album) at 16, 32, and 41 seconds, for the first time I could hear background noise. Raised the volume until I could hear it was people coughing in the audience!! Listened to this cut many times and NEVER HEARD background coughing before.

Upgrade your CCA

I wanted a good stepping stone solution to my upgrade path. I have a Chromecast Audio ((which increased my enthusiasm for listening to music on streaming services (Tidal, Spotify)) and wanted a step up in quality before going on to a superior solution; such as a Raspberry Pi with ALLO DigiOne Signature.

This little device transforms the quality of the CCA, creating a sound with a much fuller, taller, broader and meatier structure, which will possibly benefit from pulling the speakers away from the wall a little more for balance.

As a bonus I have a decent (included) power supply for use with the Allo/RPI combination later on!!!
I’m very pleased with the results.

Tame your jitter monster!

I used this spdif purifier to clean up jitter coming out of my Sonos Connect, known to be a jitter monster.

The ifi unit is no bigger than your thumb, but does a great job of cleaning up the digital audio signal. Highly recommended.

I love this little gadget!

I bought this after reading some reviews/blogs. The bottom line was maybe it will work some maybe not. For me in my system nothing could be further from the truth. Amazing upgrade on sound quality all around. Of course sound stage has opened up but most importantly the natural timber of vocals and instruments is now pure and alive. Digital glare is all but gone.

I couldn’t be happier with this little gadget. My system consists of a Yamaha SACD player that I use as a transport into an upgraded audio-gd R2R DAC. Through the S/PDIF digital connection, output is all PCM. One of the best and cost-effective tweaks I’ve done to my system. Five stars!

iFi SPDIF iPurifier- I won’t listen without it. Between transport and DAC

This device goes between a SPDIF RCA digital output from a CD/DVD player and a stand-alone DAC or receiver’s digital input. I don’t know about multi-channel audio. I use this “reclocker” between my Jay’s Audio Transport and DENAFRIPS Terminator DAC. It is an improvement. Mandatory if high-fidelity audio is important to you. I have two.

WOW

This has made a very nice difference, the noise floor has dropped even more then before.Ive got about 60 hrs on it so far and it sounds great. This little device sounded good right out of the box. After the first listen,I put in the XLO Test & Burn cd in and let it play in repeat on the Cambridge CXC transport for 60hrs and gave another listen and its even better. More realistic tone/timbre, resolving micro details, imaging is more palpable. Just more musical…best bang for the buck in years and I have been into HiFi since my Army days in Germany1975.

Equipment I’m using the IFI with a Cambridge CXC cd transport,IFI spdif ,Schitt Gungnir Multibit dac,60watt Tube amp into Klipsch Hersey III.

Do your self a favor and pick up one of these little gems up and sit back and enjoy your new sound.

Ive seen were others have stated that it takes about 3 weeks to burn in,so if that’s the case. Its only going to get better.

Enjoy !!

Pleasant (Major) Surprise

Used with Sonos Connect into my Schiit Yggdrasil DAC (coax/coax). Sonos sounded real good to begin with and was almost as good as my Rotel CDP used as a transport, so the DAC is doing a good job with its internal reclocker dealing with the jittery Sonos. I dig the Sonos ecosystem around the house and would like to keep it in the main system, so I was hoping for at least a little improvement with a reclocker; however, this iFi SPDIF iPurifier is a fanstastic sound upgrade for me. Had considered a couple other costlier alternatives, but not thrilled with upsampling and figured I could use the iFi in my A/V system if it didn’t work out in the main system. As many reviews suggest, the detail, depth, and stage improvements are impressive, and the iFi provides good combinations of input/output, if needed.

I must say that I am primarily a vinyl guy, and use digital at home for music unavailable/unwarranted on vinyl (and Sonos frequently feeds my ADD), but this system addition will have me listening to digital quite a bit more at home. Obviously the iFI SPDIF iPurifier is likely to have different or less impactful results in other systems (e.g., better streamers, better DAC reclockers), but this has delivered an astounding improvement to my setup regardless of its small price.

Like upgrading an spdif cable

The difference in SQ was immediate and substantial: much greater clarity, more solid placement and imaging of instruments, and movement of the stage image forward, closer to the speakers. Wasn’t expecting such a difference, if any at all.

iFi S/PDIF iPurifier

In use, the iFi device had a subtle but worthwhile effect, and this was repeatable across a wide range of source devices and DACs. There was an apparent slight loss of level when comparing ‘with’ and ‘without’, but the main gain was a slight increase in warmth and weight, slightly improved definition and focus in the soundstage image, and the position of performers was more finely-etched.

5 starsSounds Great!

I am using the SPDIF iPurifier with an Auralic Aries Mini and a Rotel integrated amplifier that has a built in DAC. I tried several USB cables along with an inexpensive Audioquest COAX cable and I determined that I preferred the sound of my setup with the COAX cable. I then tried the SPDIF iPurifier to see if it would improve the sound. The results were very positive.

The SPDIF iPurifier made subtle but significant changes in several ways. My system sounds better with quiet, acoustic music. I guess that means that the noise floor was improved. Music with grunt, such a jazz sax sounds, has more detail. The overall sound is more smooth. Everything just sounds better.

The end result is that I improved the sound of my system for far less than the cost of a “quality” USB. The iPurifier is well worth the money.

Subtle but noticeable improvement in sound quality

I’ve never been particularly sensitive to jitter in digital audio. I think there so many other things that affect the sound more.

Brings everything into a sharper focus with better shape, definition and clarity

Pros: Cost effective coaxial and optical digital source cleaner.

The goal of the SPDIF iPurifier is to clean up jitter and electrical noise in digital input so that the DAC will more accurately convert it to the music output that you listen to….It re-clocks the digital audio signal, galvanically isolates the DAP from the DAC and uses Femto clock to provide better timing of the bitstream, together with an ultra clean power source…The unit is also a lot cheaper than the W4S Remedy Reclocker…It is beautifully put together and looks and feels to be a quality designed and built product…All in all it comes nicely packaged and definitely gives the impression of being a quality product…Does it make a difference? The answer is yes and in a good way…there was a noticeable improvement. Everything was brought into a sharper focus, the bass became deeper, the cymbals crispier and there was a general greater level of silk smoothness to the music. It had better shape and definition and a bigger soundstage which in turn meant better separation…Mariusz Duda’s whispered intro literally seemed to jump out into the room at me and all the other instruments were more clearly defined….At £145, it’s the most competitive coaxial or optical ‘data cleaner’ in the market….the SPDIF iPurifier noticeably delivers. For me it’s a keeper.
