iFi audio iPower Plug

When is a plug no ordinary plug? When it’s an iFi iPower.

Use an iPower to replace your regular power supply for clean, noise pollution free power.

Power hungry

Got underlying noise in your system you can’t explain?

It could be as simple as your power supply.

Upgrade to the iFi iPower to feed your system’s circuits with clean, audiophile grade power and address issues at both the output and input stages.

Ifi Audio iPower Plug

Power up!

The iPower use Active Noise Cancellation+ to cancel all incoming EMI or RFI noise.

It is at least 10x quieter than previous iFi power adapters, 20x quieter than audiophile linear power supplies and 1000x quieter than standard SMPS wall adapters.

iPower for LED lights

Photography? No way. iPower can also solve my flickering LED light problem?

Yes, a constant current and voltage power supply like iPowerX will ensure that the current supplied to your LED system will remain stable, no matter the fluctuations of the AC power in your wall socket.

You’ve got the power

Add the iPower into your system and you’ll notice music come back to life. It can add in detail originally lost through conventional power supplies.

Get your power back with the iFi iPower.

EMI (Electromagnetic Interference)

EMI is a type of interference caused by errant and unwanted electromagnetic waves that are received and amplified by an audio system. They cause some of the annoying ‘audio gremlins’ we often talk about.

RFI (Radio-frequency interference)

Radio-frequency interference (RFI) is very similar to electromagnetic interference (EMI) but is found in the radio frequency spectrum. It is another source of irritating, unwanted noise often talked about as an ‘audio gremlin’.

Top tip: just don’t add water.

Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS)

A switched-mode power supply is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator to convert electrical power efficiently. It transfers power from a DC or AC source to DC loads, such as a personal computer, while converting voltage and current characteristics.

Switch-mode power supplies are widely used because of the advantages they offer in terms of size, weight, cost, efficiency and overall performance. They are in themselves noisy and were not designed with audio in mind.

Active Noise Cancellation

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) reduces unwanted sound by the addition of a second sound wave specifically designed to cancel out the first. This basically results in no sound at all as it reaches unwanted sound even at the lowest frequencies.

Passive noise cancellation is done by means of insulating filters and works best on the middle to high frequencies. It does not work on the lower frequencies meaning that some sound can still be heard.

Quiet! Active Noise Cancellation+® (ANC+) at work!

Exceptionally quiet power. The measured noise floor is 100x quieter than the common noise filter.

It can be used all over the world as it comes with pins for the USA, United Kingdom, Europe and Australasia.

It works with virtually any DC powered device and comes in 5, 9, 12 and 15 volts.

Just check the correct voltage and away you go. Clean, audiophile grade power.

Amazing performance lift

“My home network has both WiFi and a LAN. The LAN has two unmanaged data switches… nothing special, just a standard 5 port switch from one of the big providers. The ifi power supply replaced the supplied 12V wall wart supply. The results have been amazing. The sound streamed from Tidal via my MacBook has improved very noticeably, especially with MQA master! The picture in 4K on a 77in OLED is also much improved with streamed content whether direct to the TV from the router or via the computer. Tried the device with the second switch which serves a second system with the same result. Super impressive for the money.”

Improved Devolo Powerline Performance by 20%

The evidence is in the numbers. ifi Power is cleaner, ie less noisy, than supplied 12V power supplies for BT FTTP and my Netgear Switch. You might ask why these two items specifically? The answer is that they provide the power to the internal signal for my broadband. I use Devolo powerline ethernet (cat 7) adapters and read up about issues with power supplies impacting video playbacks on networks so figured that it would make sense to look at reducing the noise floor on my internet source (BT FTTP) and termination NetGear switch in my garden office. The proof is that all connections are up by 20% in the before and after testing. Plenty good enough for me, to give ifi 5 stars for these power supplies. And saving me hundreds by not paying for Linear power supplies. (I also swapped out a 5V supply for my Bluetooth receiver and Phono Stage power supply with ifi power units – Currently doing sound tests).

Nice, Simple and Effective HiFi Upgrade.

I originally bought the 12V 1.8A unit because it was so highly recommended by those who are using tube pre-amps and DACs with cheap power supplies (I have several). I’ve spent a little time and money upgrading the internals of each one, so all that was really left to do was try an upgraded “silent” power supply to squeeze every last drop of clarity there was to get.

I first connected the iFi power supply to my FX AUDIO TUBE03 pre-amp and noticed very little if any difference in background noise compared to the aftermarket 12V 3A wall wort I currently have. I then swapped it over to my FX AUDIO DAC MKII that’s in the same chain using the power supply that came with it.

That’s when the difference became noticeable. In fact, I’d say that what’s left of the noise in my system is probably coming from the TUBE03 power supply itself. The difference was just so small to notice when the DAC power supply was causing the most noise to begin with. I’ll be getting another iFi power supply soon… because yes, it does work as advertised.

Really does make a difference

“Possibly the best addition for any Raspberry Pi based Audio… it’s not horrendously expensive – but it DOES work and lowers the sound floor nicely. FAR, FAR better than anything else – unless you start spending very silly money for limited extra benefit.”

Good build quality and great sound

I bought this to get rid of a grounding hum between my DAC and amp. This iFi power supply was to replace the one provided with the DAC and it works a treat – no hum and sound quality is great. A well made product too.

Surprised

I saw reviews and decided to have a try. I was prepared to see little or 0 impact. I was wrong. Once I connected this to power DAC….what a change. Sound is richer, more detailed, more separated, warmer and louder. I can hear sounds I never thought they existed in the music, songs. If you have a 2.1 stereo set up and you have a good DAC machine, then buy this without hesitation. Well worthy! Thanks

What a transformation!

I used the iFi iPower2 – Low Noise DC Power Supply with my recently purchased ifi zen phono stage, and the difference between it and the original supplied power supply was immediately apparent, anyone who wishes to upgrade the above phono stage do not hesitate to purchase one of these, you wont regret it, this is a genuine 5 star product.

Worthy upgrade, decent!

This little thing definitely does make a difference on the sound quality, the design is better than the previous one. Not the cheapest one but it is what it is, if you want great stuff, most of the time you will need to spend a bit more. It does exactly what it says so yes, it is a worthy upgrade. Delivery was super-fast and as someone said on a review ‘IFI sells premium olive oil and not snake oil.’ Couldn’t agree more!

Brilliant, I got this for my 5 volt IFI Zen Phono preamp for use in my vinyl only system, their was a slight hum only when I picked up the headshell part of my Thorens TD160, this is completely gone now, thoroughly recommend it. It works as promised!

Exactly as described – a very clean DC output

My audiolab M-DAC+ didn’t like the optical output from my new LG OLED55G1 (drops out for less than a second intermittently) so bought a really cheap optical/coax converter with a 5V USB PSU that let through lots of HF mush. This PSU cleaned up the signal.

Customers & many manufacturers fail to recognise the importance of the PSU in audio products! This is a switch mode PSU so will work anywhere in the world that has a reliable mains supply. The other aspect worth mentioning is the ability to connect to virtually any device including ones with Micro USB & USB C sockets of either polarity. Cost 4x more than the cheapo DAC but now get decent sound from my TV.

This wall wart is excellent on my cheap tube preamp!

Incredibly impressed w/how this power supply increased the sound quality of my cheap Fosi tube preamp. Like, really impressed. If you research these iFi wall warts, there’s a lot of people saying that they don’t improve certain audio gear, like dacs. This might be true! But for audio gear that might not have decent built in power supplies, this is highly recommended. Wish they weren’t $50, especially since my Fosi T1 preamp was only $40, but overall if you are into your gear sounding it’s best don’t hesitate to try one of these power supplies…especially if you are into headphones & have added a tube preamp or buffer to the signal chain.

Cost Effective Upgrade

I bought this to upgrade the standard PSU that came with my iFi Zen Blue bluetooth receiver, which I use to stream music from my iPad into a SPDIF input on my Hi Fi pre-amp.

Given that the source material on my iPad is either apple lossless files, Spotify or the BBC sounds app, which of course is then sent via bluetooth. I wasn’t expecting it to make any significant difference to the sound quality. However, given its reasonable price I decided to give it a try, and I have to say I am quite surprised by the difference it makes.
There’s deeper bass, a wider soundstage and generally just more of everything, which is surprising given the price and the source material being used. So all in all a very worthwhile and cost effective upgrade. Definitely one I would recommend.

Noise killing PSU

I bought this to eliminate the noise generated from a nobsound ns-08e mini tube headphone amplifier’s power supply ac/dc adaptor and it just did that. My only concern was the cost of the total product which is almost the same as the affordable amplifier.
Well done IFI! Goes to show you how much care is needed when building high quality audiophile equipment. I think the cost of the PSU can go down if the buyer could discard the multiple adaptor and cable accessories that come bundled with it especially when you might most certainly buy another one e.g. pre amplifier or digital to analogue converter.

Improvement over the SMS unit supplied with the DAC

Improved the upon the soundstage that came using the supplied SMS. Only minor problem was the SMS used a 3mm diameter male plug. Oh bleep! I expected nothing but it works

I actually used it for a different application to most, I bough it for a Sony PSHX500 turntable. In fact I really do not believe it can do much different to most dacs, as dacs and streamers have already circuit filters but well in the turntable sector one of the first upgrades are linear power supply, yet this not exactly such but neither is my turntable a Rega Planar 3. I just hoped a better switching power supply would mean better pitch stability. I tried it thinking sure I will return it.

Subtle Improvement

I am in the process of tweaking my computer audio system. I was mildly dissatisfied with the audio quality of my Schiit Modi 3 when powered by the PC over a Pangea Premier USB cable carrying data and power. I then began running it from a 2A USB tablet charger. It provided a modest improvement. I read a few places online that this ifi iPower adapter provides clean and quiet power over its microUSB attachment. I bought one and connected it my Modi 3. It provided a greater improvement in audio quality than going from PC power to tablet charger. It’s a keeper.

Excellent paired with Raspberry and hifiberry DAC

I purchased this “shopping monkey” powered power supply after reading a number of reviews on the internet. Yes it’s more expensive than a standard power supply for my Raspberry, but less than a linear power supply used in the Raspberry based streamer projects you can find around. Maybe my ears have been swayed and it seems to me that the sound has improved. Anyway I’m happy with the purchase: this is the most important thing ?

Try one, one of the best additions to my system!

I need to be careful writing this review as I have read many where the author has raved about a piece of hifi only to find it mediocre at best or to find something far better a month later. So I dont really know how to make this ‘just another 5 star review’ of many other top ranking hifi components. Yes mains treatments are subjective but this little wall wart proved very special indeed!

I was half expecting the ipower to improve things marginally, half expecting no improvement at all, especially as i have a system which puts a big emphasis on mains treatment already. My system is: home built pc, Arcam irdac ii, Rupert Neve RNHP headphone amp, Isol8 Substation 2 mains filter, mains cables from Van Den Hul and Atlas.

Good on Chromecast Audio

I was introduced to iFi through their Spidf reclocker, which I used for the Chromecast Audio. I was surprised to find that a $12 Cable Matters USB cable running from the stock CCA wall wart into the CCA for power made a dramatic improvement to the sound (even though it was upstream from the iFi reclocker).

So, I figured replacing the wall wart altogether might make a difference as well. There was a difference, but it wasn’t as dramatic in my current setup, which currently runs a builder grade electrical outlet, for example.

The difference this PSU did make was to take my speakers (KEF Q150 standmounts) from a raw sound to a refined sound. Small but noticeable. Also hard to know if a small tweak like a hospital grade electrical outlet might unlock this PSU upgrade further.

Call me a believer now. Have the Pro-ject Prebox 2 which is a great DAC for the price which has a 5 volt power supply that does well but many have said ( a better power supply would turn your $400 DAC into a $1,000 DAC. I thought it was worth a try and boy were they right.

Soundstage improved dramatically without losing detail & @ higher than normal volume the DAC didn’t run out of steam like before. There is reduced noise which I first mistook for increased detail. My home has decent power yet I heard quite a difference so I’m not sure what result can be gotten from a noisy power line.

Incredibly effective.

In optimal conditions (Roon (a super app to which I have not found an equivalent) running on a dedicated laptop + external SSD, DAC Audio-Gd based on pcm1704K), this small accessory transformed the rendering of the rest of my channel (Marantz, Kef, Nordost etc).

First, an extra dimension: depth. But also the ultra-precise spatialization, wider still, the incredible attacks (even those of silence), a capacity of resolution much higher still even on styles of loaded and dense music. The brand new “organic” side, free of any digital harshness.

The crosstalk, in enormous progression, the timbres and the richness of the instruments (guitars, basses, winds, percussions etc …); the gain is immediately palpable and shocking. A natural never heard in voices, guitar saturations, playing drums. All these details inaudible before … And all in the same plane, we gain a half-dimension in my case.

A superb surprise for my listening pleasure. I rediscover everything! Even old or medium masterings benefit from it …
A faultless for me, only for my pleasure.
I can not judge the “neutrality” may I e …… Nothing matters more than the pleasure of listening.
A must, eyes closed and ears wide open.

A great value component upgrade.

I am using this (15v version) to power my DX3 Pro DAC and headphone amp. I already have the 5v version powering my Chord Qutest DAC in my main system. It is much cheaper than buying even the cheapest Linear PSU and has all the flexibility you will ever need. Even the Topping upgrade PSU is nearly double the price.

Does it improve the sound ? Yes, I believe so. I was a bit of a cable and PSU skeptic till I moved to a dedicated PSU for a previous Chord DAC and heard an immediate benefit. Since then I have tended to upgrade PSU s and power cables but avoided silly money options. I suspect the law of diminishing returns kicks in early with this stuff. I use MCRU linear power supplies for my more expensive components and these iFi units for others. I dont think you will be disappointed.

A great product (much better than expected)

Worthy investment.

The product paired with idefender 3 produced a much punchier sound than idefender itself. I compared it against a meanwell medical psu and two powerbanks. This ifi beats all with meanwell on the bottom.

It’s only downside is the price. It’s a little expensive but comes with a bunch of accessories, which kinda justifies the price if you can find places to use them.

Frankly I wasn’t expecting such a good improvement over meanwell. A pleasant surprise!

Amazed and delighted that this works

I didn’t expect this to work but it did! I have a pair of Yamaha HS7 speakers connected to a Steinberg UR22 and my PC. The speakers were picking up noise and when playing games it was quite loud and made them unusable.

I tried everything, balanced XLR cables, passing through guitar pedals (lol) to filter it out, using the line out from my pc into the Steinberg, all continued to have the buzz. This usb gizmo got rid of most of it, then using the power adapter completely fixed it. Highly recommended, and if you’re reading this, avoid Yamaha speakers!

True Value and Performance

I have iFi on both of my Raspberry Pi, one music server and one player (with DAC Hat). I was already impressed with the improvements to the sound quality and reliability (both well over a year old now). Today I added a 9V version to the ethernet switch between them (cheaper than an audio grade switch).

I’m hearing yet more detail (I didn’t think there was anymore to extract) and there is more space between the instruments. To my ears it sounds more analogue and voices are better defined, I’m hearing things I didn’t know were there!
I now need one for the ethernet switch in the living room for the main audio player, FireTV, Smart TV………

POWER OF CHANGE – IFI ITUBE2 // IPOWER // DC IPURIFIER 2 – REVIEW

iFi iTube2 is a Tube PRE-AMP designed for large home systems, while iPower is a power converter that comes in handy if your source doesn’t come with a quality power brick, or if you need a replacement power brick.

There will also be a bonus product features in this review, the DC iPurifier 2. Since I have no comparisons for any of those products, I’ll try comparing them with other options out there throughout the review, but there will be no special comparison section within the review…

Great power supply replacement for sensitive equipment.

Originally purchased for my Raspberry Pi audio player I assembled, I turned out using it to replace the power supply of my Logitech Squeezebox Touch, which seemed to start suffering from audio dropouts when my refrigerator turned on and off (as well as other power-hungry appliances). This product did the trick and I feel better about this power supply than a cheaper one for the SB Touch.

Bottom Line: It’s a very well-built power supply that does the job.

Fantastic, better than a Linear Power Supply

I recently discovered iFi products. I bought the iFi PowerStation which is just phenomenal, the iFi iPurifier3 for my DAC which has taken the sound of my hifi to a level I never dreamed possible, and now I have purchased this iPower SMPS (switch-mode power supply) to power my DAC.

It makes the sound so clean and open, takes away harshness and adds smoothness and a beautiful warmth to the sound. The backgrounds are silent.

This iPower is way better than an expensive linear power supply I tried recently. I cannot recommend this enough and the price is fantastic for it’s insane quality. The company are fantastic to deal with too.

Clean Up Your MQA and High Fidelity Audio/Video When Running Cheap Streamers

A little background – I set out on a quest to get the best sounding and looking high definition sound and video I could muster on as little budget as possible.

I started with a $750 Furman power conditioner for all my audio/video/cable box/modem/router/switch equipment in my main entertainment center. BUT when you plug in cheap wall warts, even if it is plugged into a $750 power conditioner, in a way you have defeated the power conditioner, because they are AFTER the conditioner. What to do?

I ordered these (3 of them after trying one) for the last generation of Chromecast Audio streamers and 2nd generation Chromecast Video streamer.

As you probably know, noise from linear power supplies is much lower than switching power supplies. If you want to know more, put “linear vs switching power supply audio” into a search engine.

Anyway – this is a high quality LINEAR power supply. It tightens sound, represents the soundstage more accurately, helps remove artifacts and distortion from video, etc., etc.

Try it – You have 30 days to make your decision. BTW – look at the other voltages they make. You can clean up your cable modem, router, Ethernet switches, on and on. EMI/RFI is some of the most difficult noise to remove from video/audio equipment. This power supply is an inexpensive solution.

Bang-For-Buck certainly, but iFi also punches well above its class.

iFi Audio is a spin-off from the audio heavyweight firm AVM, and much of their technology benefits from AVM’s deep pockets and experience. iFi DOES NOT produce “cheap” goods: Even their lowest-priced components are built like tanks — tiny tanks yes, but SOLID. I have 4 iFi components set up as one of my two computer-audio rigs: They cost a couple of hundred dollars apiece, draw very little power, and produce great sound.

You could put this system into a shoebox, AND STILL HAVE ROOM IN THE BOX FOR FOUR MORE complete iFi systems. iFi’s website is also superbly well-designed, offering new product info, driver/firmware updates, and download-able manuals. Good job all-round.

Sweet rasp pi

The Raspberry Pi is a great computer audio server and costs next to nothing, but the power supply is really noisy and destroys the sound quality. On another webshop I saw the iPower but decided to buy from Amazon for the return guarantee.

Once I put in ipower 5v, the background was so much quieter and the bass was better defined. (I play drums and can tell when the drum sounds like a more realistic one.) Good product, not cheap but well worth the upgrade!

Overview of iFi Audio accessories and filters – does filtering matter?

This article was born in my head a long time ago, mainly due to repeated questions from time to time, whether I had contact with filtering devices like iSilencer, Jitterbug etc. But since I run my humble blog, I’ve probably got used to most people to a few maxims, which I am guided in total not only in the field of audio equipment, but generally in life…

Significant sound upgrade w/ Ethernet sourced DAC

Using this with an TP-Link 8 port switch. I decided to try this as I connect a PS-Audio DAC w/Bridge II using Ethernet as I found WiFi wasn’t as stable for 24/192 6mbps sources in my home. Wasn’t sure what the results would be using the iPower but for the price it was worth a try. I have to say I don’t understand why but the results were substantially positive.

What I had prior sounded really good, but with the iPower it sounded like I got a new DAC. Soundstage has snapped into more focus, and tighter, fuller, and lower bass. Vocals have more presence. It’s not just me as friends have asked what changed. Impressed but unsure why it worked so well.

Turbopower for the xpression Project table

The 15v ipower has enough amperage to work with the expression Porject table. Just be careful that not all work as some have higher amps. But the main thing is the expression gets a blacker, darker and more soulful background and for 49 small ones it isnt too bad.

Id prefer a better looking power supply but we cant have everything. As amazon lets you return then just try it and see if you like it. No risk so Im a happy camper. Bingo the upgrade!

Surprising what a difference a stout power supply can make

People have been talking about these power supplies for years in the online audiophile forums. I never had a need for one until this week. I purchased a 12v model to replace the power supply that came with a very inexpensive tube buffer I bought on Amazon earlier. My digital playback chain is currently Oppo 105 (analog out) > FX Audio tube buffer > NAD 386 > Kef LS50s on properly weighted Target stands. Not cheap gear at all. Cabling is all quality stuff.

I stuck this cheap ($35) tube buffer inline just to play with it and see if it had any effect on the sound of the Oppo. It did, in a very nice way, too. Having spent so little, I thought I’d finally get around to trying this new buffer with a properly built power supply with a design goal of low noise and improving audio performance. OK, it’s kind of dumb to spend $50 on a power supply for a $35 component. But guess what? It made a difference. A big, noticeable, one.

As I’m writing this I am listening to Jazz super-group Hudson’s 2017 self titled release. The tube buffer alone added some nice amount of air, and a richness to the somewhat lean solid state sound of my smaller office stereo. I don’t do any critical listening in the office, but I was actually surprised at how much “more” of what the buffer was doing when I put this iFi PS inline.

This product did exactly what I was hoping it would do. It made an improvement. Just to be sure, I put the original PS back and was met with a pleasant, but much less “ballsy” (for lack of a less humorous term) sound. This one’s a keeper! If I decide to buy the much more expensive iFi iTube2 buffer it already comes with one of these. But, I’d be happy to put it on any other DC powered audio gear without hesitation.

Get rid of that cheap/nasty power supply.

Like many before me I came to this on a friends recommendation to try and improve a good wee Chord dac that unfortunately comes with a functional but rather cheap/nasty power supply accessory. Put simply it works, I would not claim huge sonic improvements but it is definitely a very good upgrade for such a small investment.

Just buy it.

Knocked my socks off when I used it on my allo digione player. Worth every penny! I’m not kidding. I thought it was hype, I was wrong. Made my digione sound like $500+ audio equipment. It made the individual sounds more distinct and clean, guitars more crisp, and the soundstage less compressed. It made music sparkle. I know this sounds fanciful, but I just can’t describe it an other way.

A major sonic improvement!!!!!!!

I am stunned by the difference. And hard pressed to understand how so simple a mod can result in such an improvement in all areas of the sound.
I have a Soundsmith Strain Gauge Cartridge system that uses 2 wall warts to power the integrated Pre amp. As soon as I get the cartridge back from re tipping I will try these babies on that side of the system. I can’t wait to hear the results..and will report back when I have.

I was a bit skeptical of how much this power supply could improve the output of my Hifiberry DIGI and was blown away.

Immediate, audible improvement

Love this product. I’m using it with a MiniDSP Dirac Live series DDRC-22A room correction system. I liked my miniDSP before the iPower, but I loved it after. Immediate and noticeable improvement in high frequency detail and “air”. And overall my system is just more enjoyable to listen to. Some might consider the iPower to be an upgrade, I think it’s actually required. Be sure you’re getting the best sound you can get…the IPower is a small incremental cost to the item it’s powering. It’s totally worth it. Seems to be well made and it comes with many sizes of connectors to ensure it’s compatible with most every device. It’s hard to go wrong with this product. Clean, quiet power is important to good sound and this device will show you just how noticeable the difference can be.
